Adult Swim's Leading New Show of This Year Earns a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
