Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
