Fans Demand Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are urging that a man who jumped a barrier and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating clip depicts the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a promenade flanked by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Well-being
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande seemed startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of fans had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the second of a dual version of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely bond between two very different characters.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of the previous year in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, earning several for outstanding attire and production design.
