Former Physician Accused of Assault Charges Involving 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors report that a ex- physician has been charged with performing sexual assaults against thirty-eight victims who were patients.
Details of the Serious Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.
One deputy chief prosecutor stated, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
These allegations follow what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and a facility in Dudley.
The defendant is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
