Martínez Brace Keeps Inter Milan on Tail of Leaders
Inter forward Lautaro Martínez scored a late brace to secure his team a 2-0 victory at Pisa, ensuring the away side very much involved in the Italian league title race despite a less than convincing performance.
League Table Update
Led by manager Cristian Chivu, Inter now are placed third in the standings with 27 points, level with runner-up Roma and only one point adrift of table-toppers Milan. In contrast, Pisa hold the 18th spot with 10 points.

Inter traveled in Tuscany looking to get back on track after suffering a loss to rivals by Milan last weekend, followed by a European defeat at Atlético Madrid. However, they were made to battle all the way by newly-promoted Pisa. The home team generated numerous chances, but a clinical Inter scored the opener in the 69th minute mark when Argentine Martínez drilled a first-time shot into the top of the net. The attacker then tapped in from point-blank with seven minutes remaining.
Inter’s capacity to convert even with pressure was crucial in securing three points.

In Spain, the Basque side mounted a thrilling fightback from 2-0 down to equalize at home against Villarreal, only to lose to a goal five minutes into added time. The visitors’ scoring came from Ayoze Pérez shortly after the half-hour mark and Alberto Moleiro in the 57th minute, but Carlos Soler quickly reduced the deficit and Ander Barrenetxea equalised three minutes from time. Yet, Moleiro delivered the final say late in added time.
Later on Spanish fixture, Real Madrid journey to Girona needing a win to go back to the summit ahead of Barcelona, who secured a 3-1 win over Alavés on the previous day.
