Meteorological devices containing thousands of packs of cigarettes have caused flight disruptions in Lithuania, as the country's main airport was required to halt operations for several hours when numerous of them drifted across the airspace of Lithuania.

The temporary shutdown led to 30 flight cancellations disrupting six thousand travelers, with officials warning that delays might continue throughout Monday.

Officials confirmed that multiple atmospheric balloons were detected entering Lithuania from neighboring Belarus, with two of which ending up right above the airport's airspace.
Approximately 14 of the meteorological devices deployed throughout the weekend floated over the metropolitan zone, which is the location of Lithuania's main urban center and close to the Belarusian boundary.
