American performer Pat Finn, who featured in iconic programs including Friends, Seinfeld and "The Middle", has succumbed aged 60.

The comedy and improvisation performer passed away at his residence in LA recently having undergone treatment for a cancer diagnosis beginning in 2022, as reported by news outlets.

"Pat saw everyone as a friend - just potential friends he had yet to meet," his relatives stated in a announcement.

They added that he had "lived his life fully - with happiness and energy".

A Notable Television Career

Finn's first television role was in the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he played the brother of the main character.

He subsequently landed a repeating character on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.

He appeared as the character Joe Mayo in the show Seinfeld in 1998, playing a party host known to delegate unpleasant chores to his guests.

In the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he made guest appearances on several well-known programs, like:

  • King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • House

His most famous role for portraying Bill Norwood in "The Middle", appearing throughout eight seasons of the show from 2011 to 2018.

His film credits include It's Complicated (2009) and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups (2012).

A Life in Improv

Outside of his television work, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and worked as a teacher at the Colorado university, where he was a professor.

He was part of a six-member improv team known as "Beer Shark Mice".

"Pat taught, supported, and inspired many learners over the years and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone anyplace who has an unkind word to say about him," his loved ones expressed.

In a tribute, peer Richard Kind noted there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, assisting others to improve and be funnier. An excellent dad and person," Kind wrote publicly.

The actor is remembered by his wife Donna, three children, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
