The visionary game developer, who helped create the immensely successful franchise Call of Duty, has tragically died in a car accident in the state of California at the age of 55.

His passing was verified by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, a game studio that he helped create.

The renowned game designer lost his life when his vehicle was involved in a crash and caught fire on a freeway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a heartbreaking loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's family, his family, and everyone impacted by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts commented.
